The Big Six First edition 1940

Jonathan Cape, London - hardback

The original price was seven shillings and six pence (modern currency 35 pence).

Dedicated to "Margaret and Charles Renold". Renold was a fishing friend who was persuaded by Ransome to try sailing. The Renolds did not take to the dinghy "Coch-y-bonddhu", finally giving her back to Ransome. She appears in "The Picts and the Martyrs" as "Scarab". The Renolds' pug-dog appears as William in this book and in Coot Club. It is possible that Margaret Renold gave Ransome the idea of writing this detective novel.

Copies of this edition with wrapper can sell for up to £250.
