Swallows and Amazons "baby" edition 1953
Jonathan Cape, London
This was a first and only printing of a cheap hardback edition 1 centimetre smaller than the standard Cape edition. The dust-wrapper was based on Steven Spurrier's original maps. The price was 5 shillings (modern currency 25 pence).
The title pages include the Altounyan dedication "To the six for whom it was written in exchange for a pair of slippers".
This edition is not as rare as some dealers try to make out. I bought my copy for £22. Full details of the first edition here.
