Swallowdale First edition 1931
Jonathan Cape, London - hardback
Illustrations by Clifford Webb. These were used until 1938 when Ransome drew his own to match those of the other books written since Peter Duck. Dedicated to "Elizabeth Abercrombie", whose father Lascelles was a poet friend of Ransome. The two men met at Wall Nook, Cartmel, and would often enjoy a beer together at the "Hark to Melody" and at the "Red Lion", Lowick Bridge.
Rare copies of this edition do appear, but dust-wrapper copies are very hard to come by indeed.Robert's home page Ransome home page Swallowdale Ransome - Cape editions
